How HOAs Can Manage a Lockdown

HOAs can implement several policies to help manage their properties during lockdowns (in the event of an emergency).

In an emergency, there is usually guidance from an organizing body (such as local, state, or federal government) that dictates precisely what guidelines residential communities must follow to maintain compliance with the authorities. In addition to legal directives, residential HOAs can also establish rules and guidelines for residents to follow in order to minimize the threat.

In the case of the Coronavirus/COVID-19, social distancing is essential to mitigating the spread of the virus. Here are a few ways homeowner communities can protect themselves and each other from COVID-19:

  • Have access to hand-sanitation on every floor and common area.
  • Facilitate a sign-up sheet for those that can volunteer and grocery shop on behalf of the elderly or infirm.
  • Close or instate mandatory social distancing protocols for common areas.
  • Prevent delivery persons from accessing individual units.

These are just a few recommendations on how communities can come together to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus. For more information, check out our COVID-19 Resources page.
